What can I say about CBD for anxiety? Simply, CBD works absolutely amazing for anxiety.

As a matter of fact, one of CBD oils most noticeable effects is its ability to reduce anxiety.

I can personally attest to this. Having written a few times on this blog before about how effective CBD was in treating my own anxiety, I cannot talk about it enough! There have been so many spectacular stories regarding CBD oil and its effects it has had in people.

Ok, after that brief explanation now I will explain how CBD helped with my anxiety.

It all started in last year, when one day out of nowhere at work I had my first severe panic attack. I had an out of body sensation and felt like I was going to faint. I eventually brushed it off, and thought nothing of it when I got home. The next day, same exact feeling happened, and I tried forgetting about it again. Eventually the more I tried to forget, the more I was reminded of it.

Anyways.

A month went by and it only got worse, to the point where I felt like I was going to faint 24 hours a day, it even kept m e up at nights and I was only able to sleep around a couple of hours, if any.

I had to beat the anxiety. I had no choice but to take off of work and immediately seek help. I went to both a counselor and a psychiatrist. They were both wonderful but I still needed something extra. The psychiatrist recommended medication. The thought of medication, after hearing negative things about it made my anxiety worst. I began to try all kinds of natural products. Sadly none of them worked that well for this severe anxiety.

I then took the psychiatrists advice and tried abilify for a week. I immediately didn’t like it, I was getting extremely tired and would lose focus.

It was back to the old drawing board. Eventually as luck may have it, I came across CBD oil in my research. Reluctant to try anything from cannabis at first, I decided after hearing all the positive results, that I had nothing to lose, except hopefully my anxiety.

Immediately, I put in an order for some CBD oil, and tore open the package as soon as it was delivered. I stared at it wanting it to work, but was skeptical at the same time. There was no way this could work, my anxiety was so severe. I said

Well I took the suggested dose on the bottle.

After a few minutes, I was convinced that CBD oil was just a fad.

But then maybe 30 minutes later something funny happened. The brain fog from the anxiety dispersed. I still felt fear from the anxiety, but I was finally able to think clear for the first time in months! Plus my anxiety was reduced enough where I was able to sleep that night.

Wow! This stuff was amazing I thought.

Initially CBD oil reduced my anxiety enough where I can function. I began to take CBD oil two times a day every day. Over time it began to work better.

CBD has not taken away any frightening thoughts, but it has reduced the severity of the feeling generated from the anxiety. It allows you to function again. Just like medication is intended to speed up recovery, CBD works in a similar manner. CBD is shown to increase serotonin levels naturally.

While I kept up taking CBD oil for anxiety, I had to continue digging deeper and get to the root of the anxiety and find areas in my life which were causing me trouble. That was no easy task, as I had to force myself to do things I was uncomfortable with. CBD oil helped take the edge off of these things and made my road to recovery easier.

How Exactly Does CBD Treat Anxiety

Now you may be wondering how exactly CBD oil works for anxiety. This is quite interesting.

In this review of studies published in the British Journal of Pharmacology on the regulation of emotion and emotional memory processing by cannabidiol, CBD is cited as having anxiolytic (anxiety reducing) effects in humans. CBD has long been known as a drug with therapeutic potential in treating a broad range of psychiatric diseases, and mounting evidence suggests that CBD has anxiety relieving properties.

Initial studies conducted on CBD showed that it could block some effects of THC, one of the main cannabinoids found in cannabis. In one study, researchers investigate if CBD can prevent the effects of high THC doses and found that CBD reduces the anxiogenic effects of THC. In other words, CBD can reduce the anxiety-inducing effects of THC in cannabis.

The effects of CBD were initially investigated in animals such as rodents, but as evidence of CBD’s effectiveness mounted some clinical studies were performed. These studies tested for the anxiolytic effects of CBD on humans exposed to anxiety-provoking situations or stimuli.

One major study at the Laboratory of Psychobiology at a major research center in Brazil sought to measure the effectiveness of CBD at reducing public speaking-induced anxiety. Subjects were split into groups and one group was given a 300mg of CBD orally. They were then asked to give a public speech. The group that took the 300mg dose of CBD exhibited less public speaking-induced anxiety compared to the group that did not.

In another study conducted in 2004 and published by the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, CBD was shown to reduce blood flow to certain areas of the brain commonly associated with the anxiety response. In the study, subjects were administered 400mg doses of CBD orally and the blood flow in their brains was monitored. It was revealed that administration of CBD reduced blood flow in medial temporal structures and PCG areas of the brain, both of which are involved in the brain’s response to anxiety-inducing stimuli.

A similar study in 2011 conducted by the same group of researchers sought to research patients’ subjective experience of the effects of CBD on anxiety. Patients with generalized anxiety disorders were administered 400 or 800 mg doses of CBD and asked to subjectively report their anxiety levels. The patients who took CBD reported a reduction in anxiety compared to those who did not. Moreover, the levels of blood flow to the limbic and paralimbic areas of the brain in these patients were altered. This lead researchers to believe that CBD may be reducing anxiety levels through a mechanism that involves altering the blood flow to these areas of the brain, warranting more research into the effects of CBD on the brain.

Ultimately you may want to know, how well CBD compares to medication in treating anxiety.

The most commonly used medications prescribed for anxiety today are SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors). These medications work by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin that is released into the clefts between neurons. This in turn causes the serotonin levels to stay high for a longer period of time.

According to this study in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, the downside of using such medications is that they may cause dependency. This is because of the acclimatization that occurs with their constant use. When such medications are stopped, the body may respond negatively and exhibit withdrawal symptoms. Another downside of SSRIs is that there’s always a risk of overdosing on them, unlike CBD oil.

As we have noted above, and with my own experience, continuous use of CBD oil can be a very effective treatment for anxiety.

CBD has a low and typically safe side effect profile. CBD does not cause dependency, won’t slow down cognition, and you can’t overdose from it. According to one study, CBD was described as having a favorable safety profile. The study was conducted as a comparison between CBD oil vs. drugs used to treat psychotic disorders and epilepsy. The most common side effects of CBD noted in the study were tiredness, diarrhea and changes of appetite/weight.

Personally, the anti-anxiety effects don’t seem to diminish when I take CBD oil continuously .
