Vaping CBD Oil Introduction
Vaping CBD oil is starting to gain popularity, as now there are so many different CBD oil e-liquids to Choose from. I am an avid CBD user and decided to broaden my CBD experience and give vaping CBD oil a try.
This article will fill you in on my first time experience with vaping CBD oil and with vaping in general. “Do I recommend vaping CBD oil?” and “what does it do?” will all be answered. Plus I address some of the health concerns associated with vaping.
Why do Some People Vape CBD Oil as Opposed to Ingesting it?
Well in order to answer that question, we must discuss bioavailability.
When taking CBD oil orally through a tincture there is less bioavailability. This is due to the means of transport of CBD in your system. The CBD oil has to go through the digestive tract, thus being less bioavailable.
When vaping CBD oil, the means of transport is more direct. The CBD oil goes directly into your lungs, straight into your bloodstream, which in return retains more of its chemical composition.
A Clarification on Vaping CBD Oil
Just to clarify before you take any old CBD oil and try to vape it, there is a difference between CBD e-liquids made for vaping and regular CBD oil.
Regular CBD oils usually only contain a carrier oil (typically mct oil) and retains its viscosity, it is not compatible with vaping pens.
CBD oil vaping e-liquids contain other ingredients, usually food grade glycol. The glycol is necessary because it thins the oil and allows it to be compatible with vaporizers.
There are two types of CBD vaping e-juices. There are ones that you can use as-is in your vaporizer with its own flavor, and there are others that you can mix with your favorite e-liquid.
Why Do People Take CBD Oil?
Because of all of CBD oil’s amazing benefits. CBD research shows promising results for things such as:
- anxiety
- epilepsy
- insomnia
- social anxiety
- headaches
- pain and inflamation
- mood
- withdrawal symptoms from tobacco/marijuana use
and many more.
*I wrote in length about this here.
My First Time Vaping CBD E-liquid and Initial Reaction
After deciding on a CBD oil e-liquid. I went directly to the nearest vape shop and picked up a vaporizer. The people in the shop were friendly and could tell I was a first time user. They instructed me on what I needed to do before vaping.
When I had returned home with my new unit, I followed their advice and primed the coils with my CBD e-liquid and then filled up the tank. Finally I was ready to give it a go.
I inhaled for the first time and……..I started coughing like crazy. I felt like I was suffocating. For all you professional vapers out there who are reading this gasping and shaking their heads — yes — I know, I was inhaling it wrong. After some more research I realized that there was some technique to this.
So I took another crack at it and this time I was doing it correctly. I continued to vape the CBD oil for around 30 minutes.
Effects I Noticed From Vaping CBD Oil
I did notice the effects of vaping CBD oil more immediately in comparison with the oil tinctures. I became more relaxed and mellow. Maybe even a little tired. It definitely subdues your anxiety and keeps you calm but leaves you feeling less productive. It would be great to do when you are ready to unwind and relax. When taking CBD oil tincture I don’t get as tired and don’t mind taking it throughout the day.
Sounds Good So Far. So What’s The Issue
Since vaping is still in its infancy, not a lot is known about health concerns, but new research has been emerging that suggests that it is not as safe as you think. This sounds counter intuitive when taking CBD oil, which boasts a lot of health benefits, while vaping — on the other hand — may cause harm to your health. “Vaping CBD oil” may be the newest oxymoron since “vacation homework”
When vaping, the glycol in e-juices heats up and is then turned into formaldehyde. Formaldehyde Is not something you want to put into your lungs.
Sciencenewsforstudents.org comments on research done by toxicologist Irfan Rahman in the University of Rochester, which shows the dangers of vaping to the mouth and lungs.
Last October, his team showed those vapors inflame mouth cells in ways that could potentially promote gum disease. That gum damage can destroy the tissues that hold teeth in place. So severe gum disease could lead to tooth loss.
They continue on:
Over the past few months, research has turned up evidence that vaping can pose many brand new risks. The vapors mess with immunity, some studies show. “Smoker’s cough” and bloody sores have begun showing up in teen vapers. The hotter a vaped liquid gets, the harsher its effects on human cells. And a relatively new vaping behavior called “dripping” ups the heat. This threatens to intensify a teen’s risks from those vapors.
On top of all that, studies seem to indicate that chemicals found in e-liquids may cause cancer.
Do The Positives of Vaping CBD Oil Outweigh the Negative
Personally I don’t think they do. CBD oil has so many benefits that it doesn’t seem wise to me to administer it in a way that may cause issues down the line. I will say this. Vaping does seem convenient if you need to take some CBD on the run and want some instant relief. Other than that I wouldn’t really recommend vaping CBD, but you guys be the judge.
Conclusion
What have we learned from this. Vaping CBD oil enters your bloodstream quicker than taking it orally and is more bioavaliable. Its effects are immediately noticable. None the less vaping poses many health risks to the mouth and lungs, plus common sense dictates that anything you put into your lungs can only cause more harm than good. As for me, I will probably stay away from vaping CBD oil and may only use it when I’m on the go and my anxiety flares up. Other than that, I think I will stick to the CBD tinctures.
I know the vaping community must feel indifferently towards my experience. I do apologize. Stay healthy my friends.
I’ve been avidly using CBD to deal with my anxiety, and have been fortunate to do so successfully. I started this blog to share my experience and knowledge with as many people as possible.
